Freedom from alcoholism

Last night I watched a documentary about William Wallace. For those of you who don’t know who William Wallace is, he is the great Scottish hero that Mel Gibson played in the film Braveheart. The thing that is most associated with Wallace, and even more so after Braveheart, is his love of FREEDOM. There is a great scene in the film where William (Mel) makes the speech where he rouses the Scottish army with the words “They can take our lives but they can never take our freedom”. Rousing words indeed!

The main feature of alcoholism, addictive behaviour, problem drinking is the progressive loss of freedom. The need to drink becomes stronger and stronger. You want to, need to, would love to do other things. You really want to take your partner out, spend time with the kids, visit friends, keep your promises. You really want to see the love in your partners eyes, the pride in your children’s faces, not the disappointment, disgust, anger or even hatred. You really only meant to have the one drink, you promised yourself that it would only be one. Then the negotiating started. Well one more wouldn’t be a problem and just the this last one, definitely the last one ..........

What Wallace knew was that our freedom could not be given to us, that is just another form of ownership, it had to be taken, to be claimed through our own efforts. 24/7 Help Yourself provides tools for you to claim that freedom. Wouldn’t you like to see the respect and pride in your own eyes again?
