Assessing The Situation

Purpose

To make a thorough assessment of the impact of drinking on the important areas of your life and give you a clearer view of the problem.

Requirements

Pen and paper – you can use coloured pens if you want but they are not essential

Quiet place where you will not be disturbed

At least an hour

Instructions

Start by writing the word SHARE at the top of the page.  Then underneath write Safety.

Safety

Now take a few moments to think about your life.  Think about his/her drinking behaviour.

Does it make you feel unsafe in any way?

Does it make you feel that it is unsafe for other members of the family, eg children?

Spend some time thinking about the situation, about how drinking affects your, or others’ safety.  If you cannot think of anything to write and want a prompt then go to the link on Safety Prompts.

Health

Now take a few moments to think about your life.  Think about his/her drinking behaviour.

Does it affect your health in any way?

Does it affect the health of other members of the family, eg children?

Spend some time thinking about the situation, about how drinking affects your, or others’ Health.  If you cannot think of anything to write and want a prompt then go to the link on Health Prompts.

Ambition

Now take a few moments to think about your life.  Think about his/her drinking behaviour.

Does it affect/or has it affected your ambitions and aspirations?

Does it affect/or has it affected your ambitions and aspirations of other members of the family, eg children?
